Nissan Celebrates One-Million Qashqais built

You may not have heard of the Nissan Qashqai before, but don't fret; it isn't a model that is available here in the United States. Why, then, are we writing about it here on this blog? Well, we here at Curry Nissan love to celebrate all of Nissan's milestones around the world. And, as it turns out, the Japanese automaker has just reached another milestone with the creation of their one-millionth Nisan Qashqai.

Also known as the Nissan Dualis, the Qashqai is available in the U.K., Japanese, and Australian markets. In many ways, the Nissan Qashqai is similar to the Nissan Rogue, which is available on our lot at 3495 Crompond Rd Yorktown Heights, NY 10598. Much like the Rogue, Nissan offers the Qashqai with a wide range of 4-cylinder engines, combined with front-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive. The vehicle can also be paired with either a CVT or manual transmission.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the fact that when Nissan announced its millionth Qashqai on June 28th, the vehicle had only been in production for a mere four years. This short amount of time in which the Qashqai has reached one-million units produced makes it one of the most sccessful British-built vehicles ever.

Speaking on the record-setting Nissan Qashqai, Kevin Fitzpatrick, VP Manufacturing, Nissan UK said, "The Nissan Qashqai has been a phenomenal success since its start of production just four and half years ago. Qashqai was a real crossover pioneer and producing one million in such a short space of time is a fantastic achievement, not just by staff at the Sunderland Plant, but also by the designers and engineers who developed such a popular car and our dealer network who have helped to generate such high demand."1

What does Nissan plan to do with their millionth Qashqai? The silver colored 2.0-liter diesel TEKNA will go on display at the O2 Arena in London. It won't stay there for too long though, as the Japanese automaker prepares to award it to one lucky Nissan enthusiast. This seems like a fitting way to thank their fans for making the Qashqai such a huge success.

Nissan is also confirming a redesign in the vehicle's future. Mark Priskm UK business Minister said, "...It's great news that they will be able to build on their success with the recent announcement that the UK has been chosen to design, engineer and build the new Qashqai model."2
